Why Bridal Matters To Us

A Gown Is More Than a Garment — It's a Heirloom

Wedding gowns carry the weight of one of the most significant days in a person's life. The care they receive after that day determines whether they remain beautiful for decades — or deteriorate quietly in storage.

At Wally's, bridal preservation is not a side service — it is one of our deepest areas of expertise. We have preserved Michigan wedding gowns, from simple satin sheaths to elaborate cathedral-length couture creations adorned with hand-sewn beadwork and French lace.

Every bride who trusts us with her gown receives the same meticulous care: a full inspection, professional stain treatment, expert cleaning, and museum-quality archival packaging.

Our 5-Step Process

How We Preserve
Your Gown

1

Full Gown Inspection

Every inch of your gown is examined before we begin. We document the fabric type, construction details, all stains, and any areas of concern.

2

Stain Pre-Treatment

All stains are individually treated — including invisible oxidation stains from food and beverages that become yellow over time if left untreated.

3

Professional Cleaning

Your gown is cleaned using the method appropriate to its specific fabrics — hand-cleaning for delicate areas, specialist machines for structured bodices.

4

Finishing & Inspection

Hand-pressed, re-examined, and finished before packaging. Any missed stains are re-treated until we are completely satisfied.

5

Archival Preservation Packaging

Wrapped in acid-free tissue, placed in oxygen-free atmosphere, and boxed in an archival-grade preservation box with inspection window.

Important Timing Note

Bring Your Gown In As Soon As Possible

The most common mistake brides make is waiting too long after the wedding. Invisible stains — from champagne, white wine, and sugary drinks — begin oxidizing immediately and become increasingly difficult to remove the longer they are left untreated.

We recommend bringing your gown to us within 4–6 weeks of your wedding for the best possible outcome.

My grandmother's wedding gown from the 1960s needed restoration before I could wear it. The team at Wally's was incredibly careful, knowledgeable, and respectful of how precious it was to our family. Stunning results.

Bridal Questions

Common Bridal
Questions Answered

As soon as possible — ideally within 4–6 weeks. Many stains are invisible immediately after the wedding but begin to yellow and oxidize quickly. The sooner we can treat them, the better the outcome for your gown.

Most bridal gown cleaning and preservation takes 2–4 weeks from drop-off to completion. This ensures we have adequate time to properly treat all stains, clean the gown, and package it correctly. Rush service is available — ask us about timing during your consultation.

Yes. We specialize in difficult bridal stains — including red wine, champagne, food, grass, and mud. We also treat invisible sugar stains that cause yellowing over time. While we cannot guarantee 100% removal of every stain (particularly those that have been set for a long time), we have an exceptional track record and we will be completely transparent with you about realistic expectations before beginning.

Our preservation boxes include: your cleaned and pressed gown wrapped in acid-free tissue paper, placed inside an oxygen-free sealed environment, housed in an archival-grade acid-free box with an inspection window panel. The window allows you to see your gown at any time without breaking the preservation seal.

Bring your gown directly to our Detroit facility — we recommend booking a free consultation so our bridal specialist can inspect it with you and explain exactly what it needs. Metro Detroit brides tell us the visit is worth it.
